Road Trip to Knysna

gmgetawayspecialis

In June 2022, I took a road trip from Johannesburg to Knysna in the Western Cape. It was a Monday morning at 4 am to be exact! I was excited but also doubtful as I had not driven such a long distance before. 1 hour later I was leaving Gauteng and joining the North West province, and 6 hours later I was in Kimberly Northern Cape. I did not eat anything during this trip, not even a snack bar, I only had 1 Redbull as I was skeptical about eating, being tired, and probably falling asleep. I eventually figured that I drive 100km from one town to the next where I'll be able to fuel up, toilet stop, etc. It took me two fuel ups (full tank) to make it to the destination and still be able to drive locally till the day I returned.

For laughs, I ran out of fuel when I was 30km from the next stop, I was on the last bar on my fuel gauge LOL I had to drive 50/60kmph on eco mode in order to make it to the next garage (Victoria West) this was fun for me as I kept asking myself if I don't make it to the next stop then what? roadside assist LOL. Luckily I made it and I was able to fuel up and proceed with my journey. I must mention the STOP/ GO roads were my worst experience, they took an hour from my journey, nonetheless, I made it to Knysna 14 hours later, exhausted and hungry. Otherwise, the trip was really nice.

Knysna is such a peaceful place, with beautiful mountain houses, the sea, the waterfront, the beach, and the people. I loved everything about it, except that there was no food delivery app that works, you either take a walk or drive to the shops to get things you need. The view is to die for. The house we got to stay in was surrounded by nature and close to the sea, it was very chili meaning the fireplace was always lit to keep us warm. And that I had to cook most time :( I got to take a walk on the train track that crossed the Knysna lagoon and that took my heart rate from 99bpm to 145bpm LOL. The walks in the neighborhood were nice the 3 beaches I went to were also peaceful and beautiful. I stayed for almost two weeks and every day I was experiencing something different. The walks were better than the drives, I would definitely recommend visiting the place. If you will be flying down, you will land in George and you will need an airport transfer to Knysna, there are great adventures to do and affordable holiday homes/B&B @ about R350pppns.

Driving back took me 12 hours and I ate on the way back and had my Redbull and Powerade. I left Knysna after 6:30 am and arrived after 6 pm. Visit Knysna, I mean why not!
